Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB stated this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total American average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
