Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
