AC Shadows Unveils Surprising Attack on Titan Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a surprising partnership that challenges conventional predictions, Ubisoft has unveiled an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.
Peculiar Questline Uncovered
According to the authorized announcement, "A mysterious meeting pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original adventure, where whispers of prohibited rituals and fearsome transformations echo through the shadows." The storyline introduces a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a secret group.
The questline focuses on "bizarre tests and a monstrous enemy" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Locations and Changes
The preview showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser ends with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Items and Extra Material
Players who finish the quest will obtain an unique katana alongside several items hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, offering:
- Titan-based attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Special arms
- Survey Corps steed
Third Free Story Content
This release also introduces the game's newest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This playful mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive skills: Naoe introduces a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Previous Japanese Animation Collaborations
This represents scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime franchises. The series earlier featured a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally featured a quest that unmistakably echoed the famous series One-Punch Man.
